WebLearn Wobble
Today, 31 July 2009, some users were unable to access WebLearn for around one hour between 3pm and 4pm.
One of WebLearn’s four admin nodes (node D) stopped working correctly and users that were sent to that node by the load balancer were either unable to access the WebLearn login page, getting a 404 error, or if they could login the stylesheets were not loading and WebLearn was unusable.
This problem was reported by the student help desk to WebLearn admin at around 3pm and after investigation the faulty node was shut down and removed from the cluster at around 4pm.
The node will be re-added to the cluster after the weekend shut-down for the upgrade of the SAN.
Unfortunately this happened on the day of the reassessment deadline so some students may have experienced a delay in being able to submit their coursework via WebLearn. As this matter was resolved by around 4pm and the building is open until 7pm this should not have prevented any students from submitting their coursework via WebLearn.
Moving to Moodle
Another university moves from Blackboard Vista to Moodle.
“We expect to save approximately $130,000 per year on the hardware costs associated with running Moodle on our campus servers because Moodle is not as resource-intensive as Blackboard Vista,” Dulberg said.
…the University pays around $100,000 a year for Blackboard Vista maintenance.

Weekend of 7 & 8 March 2009
The university website was unavailable over the weekend from Saturday evening until Monday morning.
As some users access WebLearn via the links on the university website rather than directly this may have prevented them from accessing WebLearn.
As WebLearn runs independently of the London Met website it can still be accessed when the website is unavailable.
WebLearn can be accessed directly from this url: http://weblearn.londonmet.ac.uk
